Acts 7:44-50

44“Our ancestors had the Tent of God's presence with them in the desert. It had been made as God had told Moses to make it, according to the pattern that Moses had been shown. 45Later on, our ancestors who received the tent from their fathers carried it with them when they went with Joshua and took over the land from the nations that God drove out as they advanced. And it stayed there until the time of David. 46He won God's favour and asked God to allow him to provide a dwelling place for the God of Jacob.47But it was Solomon who built him a house.

48“But the Most High God does not live in houses built by human hands; as the prophet says:

49‘Heaven is my throne, says the Lord,

and the earth is my footstool.

What kind of house would you build for me?

Where is the place for me to live in?

50Did not I myself make all these things?’

Singing the Faith 53

How Shall I Sing That Majesty

Verse 1

How shall I sing that Majesty
Which heavenly hosts admire
Let dust in dust and silence lie
Sing sing angelic choir
Thousands of thousands stand around
Your throne O God Most High
Ten thousand times ten thousand sound
Your praise but who am I

Verse 2

Your brightness to their sight appears
While I your footsteps trace
A sound of God comes to my ears
They see you face to face
They sing because you are their Sun
Lord shine a beam on me
Wherever heaven has begun
Shall alleluias be

Verse 3

Enlighten with faith's light my heart
Inflame it with love's fire
Then shall I sing and share a part
With that celestial choir
I shall I fear be dark and cold
With all my fire and light
Yet when you treasure their rich gold
O Lord accept my mite

Verse 4

How great your being sovereign Lord
For you all beings keep
Your knowledge is the only cord
To sound so vast a deep
You are a sea without a shore
A sun without a sphere
Your time is now and evermore
Your place is everywhere

Psalm 34

In Praise of God's Goodness

1I will always thank the LORD;

I will never stop praising him.

2I will praise him for what he has done;

may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!

3Proclaim with me the LORD's greatness;

let us praise his name together!

4I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me;

he freed me from all my fears.

5The oppressed look to him and are glad;

they will never be disappointed.

6The helpless call to him, and he answers;

he saves them from all their troubles.

7His angel guards those who honour the LORD

and rescues them from danger.

8Find out for yourself how good the LORD is.

Happy are those who find safety with him.

9Honour the LORD, all his people;

those who obey him have all they need.

10Even lions go hungry for lack of food,

but those who obey the LORD lack nothing good.
