News - Update

At 1500 yesterday, The Methodist Church issued this statement:

It is with sadness that we recommend that worship services in Methodist Churches are suspended for the time being in line with Government guidance.

In terms of Church business, we recommend that all meetings including church councils and circuit meetings should be cancelled.

Other community events like lunch clubs, after school clubs, playgroups and fellowship groups should be suspended.

This means, that for the duration, there will be no church meetings, church groups, or worship held at MMC. The Methodist Church centrally will keep us updated on when we might be able to resume activities. The last activities for the foreseeable future were held today before lunchtime.

The statement goes on to say:

During this incredibly difficult time when people might want to spend time in prayer in their Methodist Church. Local trustees should consider whether it is possible to open up their churches to enable people to come and pray or sit quietly, perhaps offering prayer stations as a point of reflection with precautions around physical distancing.

I will be seeking permission from the Church Council (Managing Trustees) to open the premises on Sunday morning between 1000 and 1200 subject to the conditions above, for prayer and reflection. There will be prayer resources available for people to take away with them.

We will be seeking to set up a network of people who would be willing to stay in touch with vulnerable and isolated members of the congregation, also folk who might be able to help in practical ways, e.g. posting a letter or do small amounts of shopping.

Thank you for your support, and I will endeavour to keep you updated during these difficult times.

All the best,

Antony Oakley
